Elevate Festival – Behind the Scenes: Producing & Touring Theatre

Ever wondered what it actually takes to get a show from an idea onto the stage – and then take it on the road?  This workshop is split into two parts. Part One introduces the world of creative producing and touring: what a producer actually does, how shows come together and the realities of getting work into venues and in front of audiences.  Part Two is an open producing surgery. Bring along your own ideas, projects or shows in development and get practical advice on challenges, next steps and how to make them happen.  About Caleb Lee  Dr Caleb Lee is an award winning producer and Lecturer in Drama at the University of Exeter, where he currently convenes the BA Creative Producing and postgraduate Creative Industries modules. With over 15 years’ experience, he works in events and across the commercial, subsidised and fringe sectors in Singapore, the UK and everywhere in between. Recent projects and tours include: Sinatra: The Musical, New Earth Theatre’s Living Archive, For the Love of Jollibee, For the Love of Spam, Don’t Call Me China Doll, Not That Asian, Wanted! Singapore Spotlight @ EdFringe and Play On!   Caleb is also Co-Artistic Director of Five Stones Theatre – an international collective creating dance and theatre for children and young people that are “a little different”.   About Big Kun  In the ancient text of Zhuangzi, the vast fish Kun (鯤) transforms into a giant bird—transcending the limitations of the underwater world to experience ultimate freedom. Like the ancient fish, we believe it’s possible to become something greater than what we imagine ourselves to be.  We produce work across stage & screen, bringing together artists from different disciplines, moving between mediums and perspectives to challenge social norms and centre nuanced experiences.   This event is open to Elevate Members exclusively.
