About this event
Ever wondered if you could do stand-up? Come and find out in this friendly, hands-on introduction to comedy with award-winning comedian and coach Angie Belcher.
Designed for complete beginners, the workshop will introduce some of the building blocks of stand-up, from finding your comic voice and turning your own experiences into material, to joke writing, performance and getting comfortable sharing your ideas with an audience. No previous comedy or performance experience needed, just bring an open mind and a willingness to have a go.
Angie has more than 15 years' experience as a comedian, writer, facilitator and coach. She regularly comperes Glastonbury Festival's Cabaret Tent, teaches stand-up comedy on Circomedia's BA in Contemporary Performing Arts, and has worked with organisations including the BBC and The Prince's Trust. Her comedy courses combine practical writing and performance techniques with confidence-building, helping people discover what makes them funny.
This event is part of the Alright Mate? Festival, a programme of creative and social events opening up conversations around men's mental health and wellbeing as part of the wider Movember campaign. You'll see plenty of conversation around men's mental health online throughout Movember, but these events offer a chance to experience that conversation in person, meet others and make it feel a little more real.
About Alright Mate? Alright Mate? is a Devon-based community interest company using creativity to create spaces where men can connect, talk openly and feel less alone. Working with artists, local organisations and communities, they run creative and social events designed to make conversations about mental health easier and help men access support before reaching crisis point.
