Curated by Dr Marral Shamshiri, University of Exeter and Professor Shahrzad Mojab, University of Toronto, this exhibition unearths the revolutionary world of Iranian students in the 1960s and 1970s through the periodical ١٦ آذر (16 Azar). Named after Students' Day in Iran, it was the central publication of the Confederation of Iranian Students, National Union between 1965 and 1975: the major force of organised Iranian opposition abroad in the decades preceding the 1979 Revolution. 16 Azar was subsequently published by different factions of the student movement until 1979 and provides a window into the internationalist and revolutionary worldview of this generation of activists. On 11 November, the curators will be in conversation with Dr Siavush Randjbar-Daemi, University of St Andrews, and Maryam Jazayeri, Independent Researcher, to discuss the history, politics and archives of the Iranian student movement.
This exhibition is supported by the Digital Archive of the Middle East (DAME) project at the University of Exeter’s Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies (IAIS).
